The Republic of Wolves
BIOGRAPHY
The Republic of Wolves are a 4-piece indie rock band from Long Island, New York.
Formed in 2009, the current line-up is composed of Mason Maggio (lead vocals/guitar), Christian Van Deurs (lead guitar/backing vocals), Billy Duprey (bass/screaming vocals), and Gregg Andrew Dellarocca (guitar/backing and lead vocals). As of 2015 the line-up also includes two additional touring members: Ryan Sean Cullinane, and Chris Wall, who served as drummer on the band's material up through the 2011 release of The Cartographer.
The band began their touring career playing a number of local venues in Long Island, but has since began expanding their touring schedule to include other states. On Saturday July 12, 2014 the band played the Long Island leg of the Vans Warped Tour at the Ernie Ball Stage. On Friday, January 9, 2015 the band played for the first time in Hollywood, CA at the Fonda Theater in honor of their inclusion in the final round of the Vans Warped Tour. Beginning on Friday, January 23, 2015 the band played at The Space in Hamden, CT. followed by a show at The Legendary Dobbs on Sunday, January 25, 2015, both dates in support of the band Martial.
Alongside their work on The Republic of Wolves, several members are also part of various solo and side-projects. The band Tigers on Trains features the work of Christian Van Deurs and Mason Maggio; American Gospel features the work of Gregg Dellarocca; and The Year Fifteen features the work of Billy Duprey.
Additionally, all of the members contribute to satirical parodies of modern pop songs under the moniker The Hamptons, whose demos and musical stylings can be heard on The Republic of Wolves Soundcloud.
RELEASE HISTORY
Unofficially, the first releases from the band consisted of three demo recordings that were leaked to YouTube on July 17th, 20th, and 21st in 2009.
The leaked demos caused a bit of confusion after they were misattributed to another New York band, Brand New, who were at the time working on their fourth full-length album, Daisy. Included among the leaked demos were early variations of songs that would later become "Cardinals," "Spill," and "Through Windows," misidentified as the nonexistent Brand New songs "Slide," "I Am," and "Restole" respectively.
Officially, the first release by the band came on December 15, 2009.
His Old Branches, a seven song EP, was originally available solely through the iTunes online store. On June 18, 2010 the album was released on CD by the independent label Vintage Hustle Records. The album features artwork from Ben Kehoe, and the track "Through Windows" contains a hidden instrumental piece at 6:05 that resembles the song "Wood/Bricks", released on the band's follow-up single. As a special gift to those who pre-ordered the album, the CD came with a special insert that contained a code for a download of the song "Sea Smoke (demo)" a track that would later be released on the band's first full-length album.

On May 19, 2013, in response to a Facebook comment, the band revealed that the cover art was a digitally altered version of a medieval wall painting depicting a serpent swallowing some devils. The song also appeared on the September 21, 2011 compilation album The Scene released by Pacific Ridge Records.

On January 1, 2011 the band released their second EP, entitled The Cartographer. The extended-play included seven songs written during the recording of Varuna, but which told their own secondary story, and were therefore not included on the full-length. The EP was made available as a digital download, or as a clear-blue vinyl, signed by the band, that included two bonus tracks. It featured artwork from Gregg Andrew Dellarocca, who also served as the primary vocalist on a majority of the songs, alongside the traditional lead vocalist: Mason Maggio. The final track features a hidden lo-fi verse from an as-of-yet-unidentified demo, beginning at the 7:34 mark. The song "Home", and an accompanying music video from Next In Line Media, were released as the first single from the EP.
