Leona Louise Lewis Was born on April 3rd 1985. She is an English singer and songwriter. Lewis was born in London Borough of Islington, where she studied at the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. Lewis first came to prominence after winning the third series ofThe X Factor in 2006. She has sold over 20 million records worldwide.
Her debut album, Spirit, was released in 2007, and sold over eight million copies worldwide. The album's best selling single, "Bleeding Love", reached number one in over 30 countries around the world, and was the best-selling single worldwide in 2008. She was proclaimed 'Top New Artist' by Billboard magazine in 2008. Lewis released her second album, Echo, in 2009, and performed the theme song for the film Avatar. Her debut tour, The Labyrinth, took place in 2010. Her third album Glassheart was released 12 October 2012. It was preceded by the single "Collide", which became her seventh top-five hit in the UK.
Lewis released her fourth studio album Christmas, with Love (2013). The album was Lewis first Christmas album and was proceeded by the single "One More Sleep". With "One More Sleep" peaking at number three on the UK Singles Chart in December 2013, Lewis set a new record for the British female solo artist with the most top five singles in the history of the chart. She has a total of eight top five singles. In November 2013, Lewis stated that she will start working on her fifth studio album in January 2014.
Lewis is a seven time Brit Awards and three time Grammy Awards nominee. With her expansive vocal range and powerful, emotive ballads, Lewis has been compared to her idol Whitney Houston. As of 2013, Lewis is the best selling The X Factor act in the United Kingdom, as well as being the UK-born female soloist with most weeks at number one in the UK.
