... 100% Used has been approached by many who have experienced their shows and they have all asked the same question. How the hell did a comic book dork, a metalhead, and a computer geek come to be in a band together. Well, there is some history.
In 1993 Guitarist Joseph Genovese and singer Dan Flanagan once shared a stage in an indie rock outfit called Absolutely Johnathan, who played on and off for about five years. In 1997 Dan then became the frontman for The Schematics, a New York ska group. In their seven year run The Schematics played countless shows, released two full length cd's, and two ep's. However, in 2004 The Schematics called it quits and it was time for indie rock to emerge once more.
On one fateful evening in 2003, Dan called Joe with an inquiry about playing music together again...the reply was inevitably a positive response. They decided that this band would be called 100% Used, it was a comment on thier individual sexual endeavors over the years. The two played acoustic for about a month and decided they wanted a full band, after about six months the drummer and bassist left and Dan and Joe decided acoustic was the way to go.
On yet another fateful evening in 2005, Dan and Joe noticed that there was this guy sitting in the crowd that attended a few their shows. Dan and Joe also knew that this mysterious man was none other than Peter, the bassist from the now defunct 90's alti-rock extravaganza Absolutely Johnathon. "Well, since you come to all our shows anyway" they said, "why don't you grab an acoustic bass and slap that thing around with us?". He tipped his cap, and the fourth member was inducted into the 100% Used family.
And then came Rich (more to follow).
A new style and attitude toward acoustic rock was also formulated in this rebirth. 100% Used is acoustic rock that isn't just for hippies and pussies anymore. It can be soulful, poppy, gritty, raw, and beautiful all at the same time. A punk rock sensibility has been established in the band's music, promotion, as well as in it's stage ethic. Acoustic history is in the making...just wait and see.
